"The smart city concept has in recent years contributed to the emergence of many big cities across Europe. However, the majority of cities/towns are smaller in size and therefore have different issues and challenges. This is particularly true for the regions in central and eastern Europe.
 
With the aim of connecting such cities/towns and  facilitating the exchange of best practices between them, DG REGIO of the European Commission and the Slovenian Smart Cities and Communities (coordinated by Jožef Stefan institute) is organising a "Smart towns" cooperation workshop and matchmaking event on 29-30 November 2017 in Ljubljana to better connect towns of Central and Eastern Europe to the European networks.
 
The event will bring together representatives of Central and Eastern European towns and Utility companies (electricity, telecommunication, public transit, postal services, communal services) with different solution providers (SMEs) and enable them to discuss the possible solutions that would satisfy the needs of their city. The workshop will be followed by a matchmaking event focusing on digital services for citizens.
