The Ministry’s role as the central State administration authority for funeral services is one of its less well-known competences. The legislation governing this area includes Act No. 256/2001 Coll., on FUNERAL, CREMATION AND BURIAL SERVICES and on Amendments to Certain Other Acts(hereinafter referred to as the Act on Funeral Services).
The Act on Funeral Services regulates procedures including transfer of the corpse, funerals, including e.g. conditions for the operation of funeral services, crematoria and cemeteries, transport of human remains and leasing of grave sites. Self-governing regional offices issue approval for cemetery operation, cemetery rules and changes thereto.
The Act on Funeral Services also covers a number of issues that differ from initial regulations and accordingly, it is advisable to consult and follow the provisions of the Act in detail.
