The Ministry participates in the implementation of transnational and interregional cooperation programmes.

The Ministry of Regional Development acts as the public administration authority in relation to spatial planning, including planning permit proceedings, under Act No. 183/2006 Coll., on Spatial Planning and Building Rules (“Building Act”) and under other legal regulations. The Ministry carries out methodological work, provides guidance and streamlines the work of the State administration, practices of spatial planning authorities and building offices in relation to spatial planning and planning permit proceedings.
Relevant departments and units review decisions made by administrative bodies (i.e. self-governing regional offices and the Magistrate of the Capital City of Prague) that pertain to spatial planning and building rules, namely in appellate and review proceedings. In addition, they control these activities and handle claims for damages caused by unlawful decisions or mismanagement by administrative bodies within the scope of application given by the Building Act.
 
The Ministry also conducts methodological work on spatial planning and urbanism, planning permit proceedings, building rules and expropriation, provides guidance and streamlines the work of the State administration and practices of spatial planning authorities and building offices. Relevant authorised departments and units secure, where appropriate, tasks relating to verification of the special professional qualifications of civil servants at self-governing regional and municipal offices in all areas referred to above.
 
In the fields of spatial planning and building rules, the Ministry, inter alia, draws up spatial development policy – i.e. the Spatial Development Policy of the Czech Republic, keeps records of planning activity and ensures the work of the Advisory Board for the Application of Building Regulations. It also assesses drafts of Development Principles procured by self-governing regions and generally supervises matters relating to spatial planning.

The Ministry also drafts and oversees implementation of the Architecture and Building Culture Policy of the Czech Republic.
Within the framework of the Czech EU Presidency 2022, the Ministry of Regional Development organized a conference on architecture and building culture policies ECAP 2022. More details including a recording of the conference can be found here.
