The Ministry for Regional Development of the Czech Republic (MRD) belongs to the system of central bodies of the state administration of the Czech Republic in areas defined by relevant legal documents. With its powers, competences and responsibilities for managing funds, it plays an important role in government. The Ministry was established with effect from 1 November 1996 and is the central body of the state administration in matters of: regional policy, housing policy, development of housing and housing stock, rental of apartments and non-residential premises, planning, building regulations, expropriation, investment policy, tourism , public auctions and real estate activities, funeral services.

The Belgian presidency of the Council of the EU: 1 January - 30 June 2024

On 1 January 2024, Belgium assumed its thirteenth Presidency of the Council of the European Union as the second country of the Spain-Belgium-Hungary Presidency trio. This came at a time when the Union was at the end of its current institutional cycle, dealing with the consequences of Russian aggression in Ukraine, the energy crisis, climate change and renewed conflict in the Middle East.

Belgium has set six main priorities for its Presidency (BE PRES), which have been further developed in the various Council formations. These were defending the rule of law, democracy and the unity of the Union, strengthening competitiveness, continuing the green and digital transformation, promoting the social and health agenda, protecting citizens and borders and, last but not least, promoting Europe at global level.
