The Ministry for Regional Development of the Czech Republic (MRD) belongs to the system of central bodies of the state administration of the Czech Republic in areas defined by relevant legal documents. With its powers, competences and responsibilities for managing funds, it plays an important role in government. The Ministry was established with effect from 1 November 1996 and is the central body of the state administration in matters of: regional policy, housing policy, development of housing and housing stock, rental of apartments and non-residential premises, planning, building regulations, expropriation, investment policy, tourism , public auctions and real estate activities, funeral services.

Cooperation within the EU

European Union funds represent the key instrumemt for the implementation of the European cohesion policy. Finances invested through these funds aim to reduce economic and social disparities among the Member States and their regions. Sucessful applicants may draw finances from these funds through various operaional programmes. Apart from Structural and Investment Funds there is a whole range of other theme oriented multinational funds established by the European Union.

ESI Funds includes the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the European Social Fund (ESF), the Cohesion Fund (CF), the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) and the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF).

Other funds

Apart from the Structural and Investment Funds, the European Union supports a variety of
activities ealso thanks to finances from other funds. Some of these are, for example: European Union Solidarity Fund (EUSF), European Globalisatin Adjustment Fund (EGF). Fund for European Aid to the Most Deprived (FEAD), Asylum, Migration and Integration FUnd (AMIF), European Fund for Strategic Investment (EFSI). The funds fall within the competence of the European Commisson or institutions authorised by the Commission.
