What priorities did we set in terms of regional policy and quality of built environment?

In terms of regional policy, we will focus on building innovation environment to ensure the most effective development of regions and cities, also with regard to the concept of smart cities and the development of functional metropolitan areas and agglomerations. We deem it essential to continue to reduce disparities among regions and to support economically and socially vulnerable regions. We will strive to implement strategic framework, such as the Territorial Agenda 2030, the New Leipzig Charter, the Ljubljana Agreement, the Davos Declaration and the EU's long-term Vision for Rural Areas 2040. Moreover, we will focus on improving the indoor and outdoor building environment.

What will we work on during the six months of the Czech Presidency?

We will cooperate with European organisations on mapping innovation environments, innovative approaches in terms of regional development and digitalisation in urban environment.

We will advance in the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals, New Leipzig Charter and the Territorial Agenda through pilot events and other strategic materials.

We will take the valuable opportunity to share experience with cooperation of metropolitan areas and agglomerations in EU countries, we will launch debate on the development of vulnerable areas and will promote the place-based approach as the standard approach to policy-making.

We will introduce interesting strategic materials and research results of built environment quality, including the updated Architecture and Building Culture Policies of the Czech Republic. We will start a discussion about the quality of built environment and the tools to elevate it, including the New European Bauhaus and the implementation of the Davos Declaration.

How will the citizens benefit from our activities?

Innovative governance of cities and municipalities

The Ministry of Regional Development is a partner of regions, cities and municipalities. The activities of MRD will therefore target the policy makers and help them to implement digital and innovative solutions to regional and city governance according to the smart cities concept, which will be a benefit for the citizens on a daily basis.

Modern and competitive rural areas

The Czech Republic is not just Prague and its surroundings. We support rural areas, in particular peripheral areas that can be labelled as vulnerable. Our goal is to show examples of how to approach such areas in terms of innovations across the EU.

High-quality built environment

We will strive for high-quality built environment that improves work performance, supports social interactions and allows for relaxation and stimulating leisure activities. The quality of built environment influences the lives of all citizens; our aim is a healthy indoor environment and well accessible, safe and beautiful public spaces.
