What are our priorities in the area of tourism?

In the area of tourism, we will focus on issues such as resilience, sustainability, and digitalisation of this field, especially with regard to the Coronavirus pandemics, and eventually also on the response of tourism to current challenges, like, for example, security threats. Further on, we will discuss current legislation drafts relating to shared accommodation and a modification of the directive on package tours. 

In the area of EU legislation, we expect the publication of a detailed report of the European Commission on the functioning of the directive on package travel and linked travel arrangements, which will assess the need for its revision. The Czech Republic would welcome the revision of the directive, especially concerning the specification of stipulations on guarantee in case of the travel agency’s insolvency in connection with the pandemic development. EC is also preparing a draft of regulation on short-term rentals, which should, among other things, also relate to the access of public administration bodies to data on service providers in the area of short-term rentals, and to clarify obligations of the affected subjects. We will demand the new European rules to be based on transparency. In other words, to guarantee the identification of a person offering the service on the Internet by means of a platform. These two topics will be discussed at the European Tourism Forum in November. The Ministry of Regional Development will also handle debates on the European agenda for tourism 2030.

What will our activities mean for citizens?
 

Activities of the Ministry of Regional Development and of CzechTourism relating to the organisation of the European Tourism Forum will have a positive effect not only on the professional debates on EU level regarding legislative and strategic questions, but they will also contribute to a better position of the Czech Republic on the international tourism market. CzechTourism will cooperate with Czech Centres (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and other resort organisations (CzechTrade, CzechInvest) in a number of events planned in association with CZ PRES.

In issues regarding consumer protection, the Czech Republic will enforce high standard of consumer protection. At the same time, it will promote the interests of entrepreneurs in tourism. It is the aim of the Ministry of Regional Development to contribute to the restart of the field and to ensure competitiveness of EU businesses via its activities.
