The Spanish presidency of the Council of the EU: 1 July - 31 December 2023

Spain held the presidency of the Council of the EU for the fifth time. The motto: 'Europe, closer' highlighted Spain's commitment to advancing in European unity, bringing citizens closer to the decisions present in our day-to-day lives.

Spain has identified four priorities for the work under its presidency of the Council:

reindustrialise the EU
advance in the green transition
promote social and economic justice
strengthen European unity

Throughout these last decades, Europe has shown how much it can do for Spain. Now, the time has come for Spain to show the world how much we can do for Europe. Our country assumes the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union with humility and gratitude. But also with ambition, determined to make it a useful instrument to improve the lives of citizens.
